On October 2, 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar, India. He became the man known as 'Mahatma' (great soul), and is considered the Father of modern India.
On October 1st in 1776 Thomas Paine published his "Common Sense" pamphlet.
For those who do not know who he was, you might remember his most famous quote:
