The Maldives islands are known for their landscapes of Heaven on Earth,
turquoise water and pristine beaches. Photographer Hani Amir reveals the
hidden face of this paradise with a series of photographs taken on the artificial island of Thilafushi.
Built in 1992 to cope with the problem of waste, this island stores 330
tonnes of waste per day. Without safety equipment, expatriate workers
are looking for metal pieces among the waste to earn a living.
