Learn Scots Gaelic

Want to expand your mind and learn to speak another language?

Why not learn Scots Gael.

We can start out easy with the words we all want to know like ...

Celidh (Kay - lee) - n,v - A gathering of friends and family for fun and games, music and dancing and other such carrying on, i.e., a party

Nudism

Nudism is a lifestyle philosophy. It has been around as a nebulous thing since air. Throughout the entire history and 'pre-history' of man being nude was the normal state we lived in. Even today being nude is more common than being clothed in parts of the world.

Nudism as a collective thought pattern as it is today came about in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and fully congealed in Germany during the Wiemar Republic era after World War One and spread worldwide from there.

Now the 'philosophical' outlook of the 'industrialized' nations matched the 'common sense' outlook of the 'non-industrialized' nations again where the clothing obsession had never taken root to begin with - clothing was worn for protection from the elements when it was worn at all.

Social status slowly became attuned to the 'doodads' one had adhered the one's protective clothing in some societies (which unfortunately where the most violent and aggressive and therefore 'conquered' the world - bringing their obsessions with them) and the obsession with outdoing one another led to the 'adoption' of remaining clothed despite the lack of need to do so.

Now the circle has come full and the need for clothing is back to what it is for - protection from the elements. Don't get me wrong nudists like clothes too, some are clothes horses - just look into the Mrs., closet and you will see how much of a clothes horse a nudist can be ... she just never wears any of them.

Interesting Question

On another forum there has been posed the following question:

Should Nudism be a religion in it's own right?

Interesting!
I will keep tabs on that discussion and see what the consensus is on that. I'd be curious as to the answers. What say you?

The Sun Is Back

The sun is back today and the pool is already full of the kids splashing while the adults are still bleary eyed and more than a few are walking 'wounded' this morning if they are walking at all - that single malt whiskey tasting last night might have something to do with that ... some 'tasted' them all and then some. Being good Scots we could not have a Celidh (party) without a single malt tasting to go along with the music, dancing, storytelling (and there have been a few whoppers - but that isn't the type of storytelling I am referring to), and other such fun and games we can get ourselves into.

After feeding the animals with the help of my grandson, he and I broke out the horseshoes and a round-robin horseshoe tournament is shaping up. Hopefully some of the 'wounded' will recover from their 'wounds' in time to enjoy the clang of the horseshoes on the metal stakes!

This year's Labor Day weekend bash is a success, the police have only been by once and that was to check to see if they needed to bring ice with them when they got off duty and came to the party themselves (it's nice to be friends with the local police chief as well as the sheriff - who has been here since Friday, anyway - his wife makes the best BBQ beans).

You know I might just have to break out the Pipes and let the 'wounded' really feel their pain - Bag Pipes before lunch, yeah, that's the ticket!

There go Seamus and Angus tearing off toward the river ... must be that family of rabbits moving around down there and the dogs are going to play with them, of course I don't think the rabbits view it that way, but the dogs do ...

Inspiring

Daily Word

Today's Daily Word is:

Spelunker (spee' - lungk -er) One who explores caves.

Ol'Fred

Caught a glimpse of Ol'Fred earlier today in the back of the barn ... something of a rarity these days.

That old Black Snake has been keeping the barn vermin free for over a year now and keeping the Mrs., on her toes. She goes catatonic at the mere mention of the word snake much less the actual sight of one - something which is a handicap around a farm and earlier in the years she was freaking out regularly because we had several Copperheads to get into the house - I got them all and I wish I could put Ol'Fred under the house so he could take care of that problem, but Mama won't hear of it (they're no Copperheads anywhere near the barn, by the way).

Luckily the river and lake are just far enough away Cotton Mouths (aka Water Moccasins) don't bother to come up the the main buildings - the boat house is another story.
