A Confederate shipwreck that burned at sea more than 145 years ago has been identified as the CSS Appomattox by North Carolina officials.
The state Underwater Archaeology Branch said a silver-plated spoon inscribed with the name of a crew-member confirmed the ship's identity.
The wreck was found in 2007 on the Pasquotank River.
