Two people are facing drug charges after officers checking on a probationer discovered a methamphetamine lab at a Monroe home.
Around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Union County probation and parole officers went to an apartment on Round Table Road, off U.S. 74, to search James Edward Robinette Jr., 49.
Robinette is a registered sex offender who is on probation after being convicted earlier this year of more than a dozen counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, records show.
When officers arrived at Robinette’s home, they found what appeared to be a meth lab, according to Monroe police.
Surrounding apartment units were evacuated, and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation was called to help remove hazardous materials. On Wednesday afternoon, authorities continued to dismantle the lab.
Robinette and Eva Marie Rankin Robinette, 35, who both live in the apartment, were arrested. Their relationship wasn’t immediately clear.
Both were being held in Union County jail, charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursor chemical, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
