Here's Rick Perlstein explaining the facts of wing nut bullshit — not debunking the lies, just pointing out that the lies have always been there, for as long as there's been politics.

Wing Nuts are afraid of change, always have been, always will be, and there's plenty of incentive for politicians and commentators to pander to that fear by planting exaggerated and utterly made-up lies.

What's different now, from the long history of wing nut bullshit, is that these lies are no longer restricted to the fringe.

Instead the lies are being embraced by mainstream, corporate-sponsored media and pushed into the eyes, ears, and susceptible brains of an audience of many millions.
