Between the pillars of a long-expanse bridge, a multitude of turbines capture wind energy from the faster-moving high-altitude currents. In addition, the (currently theoretical) road is paved with a “dense network of solar cells,” covered with a transparent and highly-resistant plastic, increasing the design’s energy production.A solar park is also incorporated into the plan. It is estimated that the bridge will generate 40 million kWh per year.

Solar Wind Bridge
This bridge, designed by Francesco Colarossi, Giovanna Saracino and Luisa Saracino, is still in the theoretical stage. At high altitude where the speed of the wind is greater the structure will capture energy in two ways:
