The crystal structure of a mineral called vaterite, which has
eluded scientists for nearly a century, has been solved with the help
of a sea squirt.
When salt-rich water leaks out of sea ice, it can
occasionally create an eerie finger of ice called a brinicle, a prime
environment in which life may have evolved.
