The restaurant's surveillance video captured the break-in at around 1:15 am. The suspect pried open the door, then broke the jukebox and stole cash, police said. "I believe it was $104, and in the end, he left it, so it was pointless," said Adriana Ortega, whose sister owns the restaurant.
The small Chihuahua is seen in the surveillance video alongside its owner. Ortega said her family is somewhat amused by the video of the break-in. "It's actually really funny, because you've never seen somebody break into a restaurant with a little dog following them," she said. Reyna and his dog fled to a nearby Taco Cabana and attempted to hide from police in the bushes, police said.
The Chihuahua stood by his side, but started growling at police officers. Officers brought a K-9 unit to the scene and lured the Chihuahua away from its owner, and took the suspect into custody. The suspect and his Chihuahua were both placed into an SAPD patrol car. Police have not said what charges the suspect would face.
