A runner competing in the Pepsi Team Invitational in
Eugene, Oregon learned that a cocksure attitude displayed too soon may
be a recipe for loss. Oregon runner Tanguy Pepiot thought he had the
race in the bag and slowed, raising his arm in a gesture to elicit
cheers from the crowd. During his display, Washington runner Meron Simon
passed him and finished first.
