A man visiting his ill father in Arizona said a night of watching
football took an unusual turn when a hawk and falcon fought over a dove
in the living room.
Trent Davis, who lives in California, was visiting his father in Cave
Creek, Arizona, on Sunday and he was helping the older man, who has
cancer, out of bed when he heard a loud noise from the living room.
"I finished what I was doing there, came back in here and then right
here in this corner of the room there was a falcon," said Davis pointing
to the corner of the living room. "And a big eagle. In between was a
dove or something that had flown in and they were fighting over it in
the living room."
He said one of the huge birds reached past his knee in height. Davis
said he believes it was an eagle, and the other a falcon. MCSO deputies who later came out to the scene to get the birds out said they believe one was a hawk and the other a falcon. Davis said he had left the door open to let in fresh air, not thinking his home would get unwanted visitors. At that point, Davis said his father started yelling. "Get them out of here, get them out." He said he grabbed a broom thinking he could shoo them away. "I put on a leather jacket and sweat pants and flip flops and got a broom," said Davis. But that seemed to only anger what Davis believed to be the eagle.
Davis said the bird spread it's wings and charged at him.
"The eagle did its full on defence stance and kind of flew at me with the feet out like this so I kind of ran away like any smart person would."
At that point, Davis thought it smart to call in for some help. He tried
looking up a number for animal control, but couldn't find it. That's
when he called 911.
Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies came to the rescue. The
deputies were able to capture each of the birds in bed sheets and took
them outside, where Davis watched as they set them free.
Davis is happy neither his father or he were hurt.
