Daily Horoscope

Today's horoscope says:

You've decided to give yourself exactly what you need -- which might be a change of scenery and some new people and experiences to enjoy.
Still, you're duty-bound to make sure everything at home will run without a hitch in your absence.
So before you board that plane or hop in your car, be sure the person you trust most is in charge of everything.
You won't be able to enjoy yourself or concentrate on the task at hand if you don't.

And away we go.

Current events lead us to believe Obama's needed health care reform will finally come to pass. Being that both sides of the issue are interested in cutting costs, there's an independent, alternative and affordable health care company which provides a good model for progressive, preventative protection to residents of the state of Oregon. It's called the Natural Health Plan.

According to the insurance company, Clear One Health Plans, Inc., "The Natural Plan is ideal for individuals who have the desire to treat the whole person (mind, body, spirit), are focused on health and fitness, yoga and other fitness products, green living, personal development, and those who follow Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS)."

Big donor stops giving to repugicans over leaked fundraising document attacking Pelosi, Reid, Obama

More fallout over the 'secret' repugican fundraising document that recommended milking "ego driven" donors by playing on their fear that Obama, Reid and Pelosi were sending America into "socialism."

From Ben Smith:
A prominent evangelical figure and repugican donor says he will end his contributions to the organized repugican rarty in reaction to the leaked fundraising presentation that advised using "fear" to solicit contributions and displayed an image of President Obama as the Joker from Batman.

Mark DeMoss, who heads a two bit christian public relations firm in Atlanta and served as a liaison to the evangelical coven for Mitt Romney in 2008, wrote chairwimp Michael Steele yesterday that he was "ashamed" of the presentation, calling depictions of Obama, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Majority Leader Harry Reid "shameful, immature and uncivil, at best."

"I’m afraid the presentation is representative of a culture and mindset within the repugican national cabal," DeMoss, a past member of the rnc's "Eagle" program for top donors who gave the party $15,000 in 2008, wrote in the letter to Steele, which he shared with POLITICO. "Consequently, I will no longer contribute to any fundraising entity of our party—but will contribute only to individual candidates I choose to support."

This is good news for the American people.

FDA orders food recalls

The problems are going to take time to correct after years of letting the factory food industry do whatever they like (and pushing expensive health care costs to consumers) but the change in attitude is impressive. Until Democrats in Congress started to change the rules, there were no recalls unless the company decided to recall a product. This tended to occur after serious problems including death, so getting ahead of the problem makes a lot of sense.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a recall of a common flavor enhancer that could be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

The product, called hydrolyzed vegetable protein or HVP, is potentially in thousands of food products, including soups, sauces, chilis, stews, hot dogs, gravies, seasoned snack foods, dips and dressings. HVP is manufactured by a Las Vegas company.

President Obama's Weekly Address

(The transcript is unavailable at this time)

Here are a few more points about how health insurance reform measures will benefit Americans this year:

Hold Insurance Companies Accountable:

  • Eliminate lifetime limits and restrictive annual limits on benefits in all new plans;
  • Prohibit rescissions of health insurance policies in all individual plans;
  • Prohibit pre-existing condition exclusions for children in all new plans;
  • Require premium rebates to enrollees from insurers with high administrative expenditures and require public disclosure of the percent of premiums applied to overhead costs;
  • Establish a process for the annual review of unreasonable increases in premiums, requiring State insurance commissioners to work with the HHS Secretary and States.

Protect Consumers:

  • Provide grants to States to support health insurance consumer assistance and ombudsman programs to help consumers;
  • Ensure consumers have access to an effective internal and external appeals process to appeal new insurance plan decisions;
  • Require all insurance plans to use uniform coverage documents so consumers can make easy comparisons when shopping for health insurance;
  • Establish an internet portal to assist Americans in identifying coverage options;
  • Prohibit insurers from discriminating in favor of highly compensated employees by charging them lower premiums.

Ensure Affordable Choices and Quality Care:

  • Provide immediate access to insurance for uninsured Americans who are uninsured because of a pre-existing condition through a temporary high-risk pool;
  • Create a temporary re-insurance program for early retirees;
  • Require new plans to cover an enrollee’s dependent children until age 26;
  • Require new plans to cover preventive services and immunizations without cost-sharing;
  • Offer tax credits to small businesses to purchase coverage;
  • Facilitate administrative simplification to lower health system costs.
