What Were the Final Words JFK Heard Before He Was Assassinated?

The ironies, coincidences, and conspiracy theories — oh, the conspiracy theories — surrounding the assassination of John F. Kennedy have never been in short supply. But after 50 years of so many factoids and tidbits, there is little that compares to the tragic last words JFK heard before fatal bullets struck him in Dallas.
"Mr. President, you can't say Dallas doesn't love you," Nellie Connally, wife of Texas Gov. John Connally, told JFK as they rode in the motorcade through Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963. Just seconds later, the shots rang out, and those words from the first lady of Texas would be the last ones the president heard.
"Dallas was a dangerous place. John F. Kennedy was warned, 'Don't go to Dallas,'" Lyndon Johnson had told JFK that Texas housewives had come out of their homes to spit at the vice president candidate during the 1960 campaign, and JFK had been told by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Adlai Stevenson that placard had been tossed at him earlier that year in Dallas.
"Danger seemed to be lurking for him in Dallas,"  "And yet … that day, Nov. 22, Dallas opened their arms to him."

Natural Born Job Killers

The repugicans Are Set to Kill 1 Million More Jobs in 2014
The rpugicans will be killing 1 million more jobs in 2014, and a new report found that their austerity madness is doing immense long term damage to the US…
boehner-jobs-lost
During eight years of the shrub junta, repugicans managed to squander a substantial budget surplus, wage two unnecessary and unfunded wars at a cost of $6 trillion over the next generation, and drove the country into a Great Recession. Along the way they destroyed Americans retirement savings, the housing industry, and successfully killed tens of millions of Americans’ jobs. For two short years after the repugican economic catastrophe ended, President Obama saved the economy, staunched job losses with a meager stimulus, and created millions of jobs and yet, by 2011 repugicans went against conventional economic wisdom and embarked on a job-killing austerity spree under the guise of reducing long term deficit they blew up during the shrub years. For the past three years, besides attacking women’s rights, repugicans have made killing jobs their raison d’être and according to a new report, their economic insanity will cost the nation immense long term economic damage.
On Friday the government reported that the country added around 204,000 jobs in October, but despite the increase, the unemployment rate rose to 7.3% over the same period. The October report took  into account that 800,000 government workers were furloughed for all or part of the repugican shutdown, and although many were counted as unemployed and on temporary layoff for purposes of the unemployment rate, they were also counted as employed by the government in employment figures because they were eventually paid. Still, federal government jobs were reduced by 12,000 for the October report that certainly excited repugicans.
Likely, the unemployment rate increase is a result of the repugicans’ precious sequestration cuts that were predicted to kill about a million jobs over the next fiscal year, and Americans should brace themselves for more job losses due to, at the very least, the food stamp cuts that began on November first. There will certainly be more jobs lost due to House repugicans’ intention to cut food stamp spending by ten-fold, or more, according to Paul Ryan and repugican budget negotiations founded on austerity madness.
When repugicans swept into the House in 2011, they promised their highest priority was job creation, but they started the 112th session with budget cuts that killed over a million jobs causing Speaker John Boehner to say “so be it.” Boehner’s cavalier attitude about killing jobs was a portent of the next three years of repugican austerity insanity, and according to an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, “the evidence is overwhelming that by failing to respond effectively to mass unemployment, by not even making unemployment a major policy priority, austerity has done immense long-term damage to America’s economy” that repugicans claim is doomed unless they enact more job killing austerity over the next decade.
The consensus at the International Monetary Fund research conference was that by not focusing on unemployment, the repugicans’ austerity has already reduced America’s economic potential by around 7% which means America is poorer by more than $1 trillion a year. Unfortunately for the American people and the nation’s economy, the damage is not just for one year, it is long-term damage of $1 trillion a year for multiple years. The repugicans have screamed that the long-term deficit poses an existential threat to America as a reason to slash domestic spending, and it is the primary reason absolutely nothing has been done about the unemployment epidemic killing the economy and Americans’ financial security.
The repugicans have been successful garnering support from their jobless and dirt-poor electorate because they preach and wrap themselves under a veil of long-run economic responsibility made up entirely of holding down government debt.  However, one of the main things keeping the economy weak and jobs slow in coming is the depressing effect of cutbacks in public spending.  As Nobel prize-winning economist Paul Krugman says, “It is the devastating cuts in public investment, all justified in the name of protecting the future from the wildly exaggerated threat of excessive debt” that is killing jobs at the same rate as a recession. Krugman also says that the lack of investment in the private sector is lagging because of the weak economy and lack of jobs that creates more long-term damage in multiple channels. He notes that “the long-term unemployed eventually come to be seen as unemployable; business investment lags thanks to weak sales; new businesses don’t get started; and existing businesses skimp on research and development.”
It is likely that most Americans, especially those supporting Draconian domestic cuts, fail to comprehend that every dollar taken out of the economy ultimately kills jobs. The repugicans certainly understand, and next to sheer cruelty to punish Americans living in poverty, they are well aware their spending cuts kill jobs that, next to attacking women’s rights, has been their stock and trade since sweeping into power after the 2010 midterm elections.
Take, for example, the recent $5 billion cuts in food stamps that went into effect on November 1st. Not only do repugicans get to create hardship for low-wage, elderly, and unemployed hungry Americans, they are weakening the economy and killing more jobs. According to the Congressional Budget Office, every one dollar in food stamp spending returns $1.73 to the economy and that $5 billion turns into $8.65 billion taken out of the economy just in one year. Since food stamp recipients spend the money immediately to survive, farmers, grocery businesses, and food processors all benefit and keep other Americans employed. Eliminating $8.65 billion is tantamount to killing hundreds-of-thousands of jobs that is just a drop in the bucket compared to the tens-of-billions of dollars being taken out of the economy with the sequester that is slated to destroy a million jobs in the next year.
The repugicans have opposed every single one of President Obama’s job creation proposals as too costly for the nation, and yet they lavish hundreds of billions in subsidies on corporate agriculture, the oil industry, corporations, and the religious industry. With every job lost, the economy grows weaker and like the IMF researchers concluded, their job-killing austerity agenda is killing America’s economy now and in the long term. The Federal Reserve researchers are very pessimistic the repugican economic damage can be reversed, and it is highly probable that the country will spend the next decade, at least, paying for the repugican austerity and job-killing of the past three years. It is economic terrorism, and literally self-inflicted economic damage.
The tragedy is that President Obama’s attempt to right the economy and provoke a vibrant recovery would have solved the nation’s financial woes, but even he fell victim to the phony “deficit reduction” scam under the guise of fiscal responsibility. With an entire year before Americans can elect Democrats to support the President’s job creation and economically sustainable agenda, it appears that there will continue to be anemic job growth and dire warnings from economic experts that America has ignored the unemployment epidemic for too long because repugicans are Hell-bent to hamper economic recovery by doing what they do best; kill Americans’ jobs.

Bill Maher Destroys the wingnuts for Telling The Poor to Fuck Off and Die

maher-gop-poor
Bill Maher obliterated wingnuts who have declared war against the poor, and their multitude of excuses for being cruel to working people.
Video:
Maher said, “I am sure that there are millions of christians who try to actually follow jesus, but you gotta admit wingnuts always seem to have a reason why they would love to give, but they just can’t. We would love to help the unemployed, but it would discourage working. I believe in charity, just not for people who need it. Of course we’d like it if everyone could see a doctor. We’re not monsters, but if the government does it, it will destroy our way of life. Plus, the website is glitchy, which leads to Stalinism. Oh sure, we’d like to help people who are starving. But what if they use the strength from not starving to take drugs? Yes, there’s always a good, moral christian reason to tell everyone you meet to fuck off and die.”
Faith is just the excuse that conservatives use to hide their selfish ideology. If they couldn’t claim that Jesus wants poor people to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, they would be claiming that it is a matter of fairness that working people get less, and poor people less still. It makes them especially hypocritical when they find the opposite meaning in the teachings of Jesus, but it is no different from conservatives making up their reality to fit their ideology on a daily basis.
What wingnuts are preaching has nothing to do with jesus, and everything to do with Ayn Rand. Since they can’t claim a moral superiority as a basis for their lack of compassion by quoting Ayn Rand, they wrap themselves around a combination of jesus, the flag, and Ronald Reagan.
wingnuts always have an excuse for their cruelty, but that excuse isn’t based on jesus. It’s based on a fantasy, and a broken ideology that has for decades caused nothing but economic pain and despair for the majority when implemented.

The Truth Be Told

Feds subject drug suspect to vaginal/anal probe, X-ray, CT Scan, without a warrant -- find nothing

The ACLU is representing a New Mexico woman in her fifties who was subjected by federal agents to a two-handed (!) vaginal and anal examination, an involuntary X-ray and CAT scan, and was forced to defecate in front of strangers. The woman was suspected of being in possession of drugs, on the basis of a drug-dog alert at the Juarez/El Paso border-crossing. No drugs were found. The federal agents -- it's not clear what agency they were with -- did not obtain a warrant. The doctors at University Medical Center in El Paso performed the procedures without the victim's consent, including the CT scan, which subjects people to a high dose of potentially harmful radiation.
A dog alerted to the woman, and Schaur Ives said federal agents stripped searched her at the facility, asked her to undress, to spread her genitalia and to cough. Female agents also allegedly pressed their fingers into her vagina looking for drugs.
The woman claims they didn't discover anything during the on-site strip search, so they took her to University Medical Center of El Paso.
"First, medical staff observed her making a bowl movement and no drugs were found at that point," Schaur Ives said. "They then took an X-ray, but it did not reveal any contraband. They then did a cavity search and they probed her vagina and her anus, they described in the medical records as bi-manual--two handed. Finally, they did a cat scan. Again, they found nothing."
The ACLU claims the federal agents never secured a search warrant before probing or touching the woman.
"And her medical records indicate that she refused consent," Shaur Ives said.

Why Tea Makes You Happy, Healthy, and Smart

Move over, coffee. Tea, java's subdued little sister, is having a moment. According to 12 new studies published in the December issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, consuming tea on a daily basis can boost weight loss, bone health, concentration, problem-solving skills, even your mood.

"Although we’re a nation of coffee drinkers, tea is the oldest beverage in the world and its health properties are indisputable," Julie Upton, MS, RD, CSSD, a registered dietitian and a media resource of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, tells Yahoo Shine. "To experience the health benefits of tea, people should aim to drink 3 to 5 cups per day." Behold, five benefits of the brew:

It boosts productivity: That guy in the neighboring cube who won't stop humming? Drinking black and green tea will help drown out the noise. The research found that sipping two to three cups over a 90-minute period improves alertness, attention span, and focus, helping people produce more accurate work. "One possible reason is that the combination of an amino acid called L-theanine and caffeine stimulates the production of alpha brain waves, giving drinkers a shot of energy, without that jittery feeling," says Upton.

It makes you happy: Of the things that make you smile — praise from your boss, watching a sunset, reading a great book — black and green tea may not make the list, but they should. L-theanine helps produce the feel-good neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. "There’s also something uplifting about anticipating a daily pleasurable ritual," says Upton.

It helps you lose weight:
It's a fact that green tea drinkers have lower body mass indexes (BMI’s), waist-to-hip ratios, and body fat than those who abstain. Compounds called a polyphenols increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation, and antioxidants called catechins spike a person's basal metabolic resting rate (the rate at which one burns calories while, say, watching a movie or typing on the computer) over a 24-hour period. "Green tea isn't a miracle weight-loss method; however, the average person will burn 100 more calories doing what they would normally do throughout the day, just by drinking it," says Upton. In fact, studies on green tea catechin supplements have found that subjects lost about three pounds in 12 weeks without changes to their diet or exercise routines.

It builds bones: When it comes to preventing osteoporosis, milk tends to hog the spotlight but green tea is ready for its close up. "Polyphenols increase the production of bone-building cells for people of all ages and antioxidants called flavanols slow bone loss in postmenopausal women," says Upton. Tea may also make you buffer — although scientists aren't sure why, tea drinkers tend to be more toned than those who don't partake.

It's heart-healthy: A greasy burger with fries sounds awesome, but the havoc it wrecks on your body is not. However, ending the meal with a cup of black tea can counteract the effects of fatty food on blood pressure and arterial blood flow. "The effect is almost immediate," says Upton. "Black tea loosens the blood vessels, helping blood circulate more freely and lowers blood pressure." Add a drop of honey and consider it dessert.

Five Things You Didn't Know About Tea

Year-round, we drink tea-the beverage that results from steeping leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant in water. The plant, native to Asia, has been consumed in China for at least 3,000 years. Of course, tea has since spread to the west, and in the U.S. dozens of jars of tea leaves line the shelves of specialty shops. Still, a mystique clings to tea. We drink it for health, taste, warming in the winter, and cooling in the summer. Here are five things you may not have known about the ancient beverage:

1. All tea comes from the same plant.
White, green, and black teas all come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis, an evergreen. Leaves are picked every one to two weeks, depending on the kind of tea desired. Whether the tea is white, green, or black depends on how the leaves are processed and oxidized. Herbal teas, such as mint or chamomile, are a separate category (tisanes). So are red teas, made from a shrubby plant native to South Africa.

2. Tea is the world's second most popular beverage.
Globally, water's the only liquid we drink more than tea.

3. Different teas have different brewing times and temperatures.
Delicate white teas do best when steeped for two to three minutes in water of about 180 degrees. Green tea requires a solid three minutes at a slightly hotter temperature. Black, herbal, and red teas develop their fullest flavor when brewed for five to seven minutes in water that has just reached a boil.

4. If you like green tea, you'll love matcha.
In Japan, high-grade green tea is ground into a powder, called matcha, and dissolved into water using a bamboo whisk. A spoon also does the trick when making this robust, grassy tea. Because a cup of tea made from matcha contains whole but pulverized tea leaves, the beverage has, relative to standard green tea, a thicker mouthfeel and a stronger caffeine kick.

5. Tea may have extraordinary health benefits.
By drinking two cups a day, you may be at less of a risk of heart attack or stroke. Additionally, as we note in 7 Years Younger, those two daily cups may boost your immune system, fight cancer, protect the enamel of your teeth, and combat the memory loss that often comes with aging. Green tea contains a trove of antioxidants that may improve skin texture and inhibit wrinkling.

Who's makin’ the best bacon?

Best bacon taste test
Chocolate-covered bacon, bacon martinis, bacon ice cream, bacon-of-the-month clubs—Is there any doubt that bacon is beloved? Unfortunately, there’s also no doubt that bacon is not health food. Just two slices of pork bacon can have about 80 calories, 7 grams of fat (about a third saturated), and 200 to 400 milligrams of sodium. Eat turkey bacon and you can cut those numbers in half, but you’ll cut taste too, our tests showed. We tested regular and thick-sliced uncooked bacon, precooked bacon, and turkey bacon.
Kirkland Signature was the only excellent product. It crisped up nicely and consistently had balanced fat and meat flavors complemented by wood smoke and a hint of sweetness. The other pork bacons were close in quality and very good overall. Niman Ranch, Trader Joe’s, Wright, and the two precooked bacons were smokier than some others; the two Hormel Black Labels were a bit sour.
The turkey bacons, cheaper but lower rated than the rest, were uniform slices of seemingly re-formed meat. They tasted low in fat, with a flavor of liquid smoke.
Bottom line. Enjoy bacon occasionally. Kirkland Signature Regular tastes best. It’s sold as four 1-pound packages, so you may need to freeze some. (In general, you can keep opened bacon in a refrigerator for up to a week.)
Very good alternatives include Great Value Lower Sodium or, for thicker slices, Oscar Mayer Thick Cut. A higher price didn’t mean better bacon: The priciest product of all, Oscar Mayer Fully Cooked, rated lower than many others.
Heating bacon in a microwave oven is quick and convenient; pan-frying gives you control over crispness; and broiling or baking lets you cook for a crowd.

Bacon 101

100% real bacon! Huh? That’s a claim on Oscar Mayer Fully Cooked.
Fully cooked. Eaten from the package, in a BLT sandwich for example, it’s not very crisp. You can crisp it by cooking, but that defeats the purpose. The fully cooked pork bacons we tested didn’t taste as good as the others.
Nitrites, nitrates. They help in curing bacon—a preservation, flavoring, and coloring process—but can form nitrosamines, chemicals found to cause cancer in lab animals.
No antibiotics ever. The animal wasn’t fed antibiotics for illness or to promote growth, a practice that can lead to a rise in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Niman Ranch is the only tested brand claiming to raise pigs without these drugs.
Thick cut. Some bacons boast of thicker slices, and they have a serving size of one slice instead of two. Niman Ranch is thicker than most but doesn’t advertise it.
Uncured. Curing is done with salt, sodium nitrite, sugar, and sometimes other ingredients. Uncured bacon contains no synthetic nitrites or nitrates, but (as with the Trader Joe’s and Niman Ranch bacons) it has them in natural form—from celery powder, for example.
