A Leavenworth County man is scheduled to appear in Kansas City
federal court this afternoon on charges that he tried to hire a hit man
to kill his wife.Late Friday, prosecutors charged Lee D. Smith, 37, of Basehor, Kan., with agreeing to pay $1,800 to have his wife killed as she arrived at her Johnson County office Thursday morning.
