The Future of Air Travel

Caveman

The 'caveman' has come a long way from D. W. Griffith's version in the 1916 film Man's Genesis to Ringo Starr uttering the famous line "Atouk zug zug Tala?" in the 1981 comedy Caveman.

Now thanks to an ad campaign by a low cost auto insurance company the 'caveman' is getting his on TV sitcom . (Not really sure if that's a ascent or a descent, though). ABC will broadcast the show this fall - the trick question is whether a quirky ad campaign can translate into a sitcom will be answered quickly this fall.

More History

History was made the other day and some of you may have missed it.

For the first time in recorded history two hurricanes hit land on the same day from opposite oceans. "Felix" slammed into Honduras from the Atlantic and "Henriette" plowed into Baja California from the Pacific.

This is fascinating stuff ... if you aren't living in Honduras and Baja California that is ... and has the scientific community aflutter when activity - even to the point some of the sellouts to corporate interests are rethinking their positions on global warming because of this phenomena.

Aviation Adventurer Missing

Steve Fossett - the first man to circle the globe in a balloon solo and the plane he was flying in went missing after taking off from a Nevada airstrip yesterday.

Teams are out in the rugged Nevada terrain looking for the plane as we speak. Hopefully all aboard are well.

Beefeaters

Quietly two months ago history was made in London as Moira Cameron of Argyll, Scotland, who at age 42 and a warrant officer 2 in the British military became the first female Yeoman Warder aka Beefeater to be among the 35-man (along with a Chief Yeoman Warder and a Chief Yeoman Gaoler - 'jailer'), unit guarding the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London.

Established in 1485 to guard the treasures of the Crown and the family of the Crown and quickly thereafter assigned to guard prisoners of the Crown in the Tower this elite corps has been an all male affair and even still was after Moira Cameron's appointment for the last couple of months because her turn on the active duty roster did not come until September 1st of this year.

Today's Beefeaters main function (outside of guarding the Crown Jewels), is to guide tourists and to patiently pose smiling for pictures. Unlike the guards at Buckingham Palace they are allowed to move and speak, and are quite jovial about their jobs. However I for one would not care to be on the receiving end of their non-jovial side should one attempt any maliciousness at the Tower much less attempt any thievery.

And you can look to we Scots to pave the way into the future, remember t'was a Scottish lass what came to be the first woman Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London.

Morning Musings

Morning Musings:

What is the price of tea in China?

Can there be a successful movie with an all nude cast ... and not be a 'sex flick'?

When will there be enough hours in the day?

How is it possible that when otherwise intelligent people gather in large groups they get 'dumber'?

Who are 'They' and why are 'They' always saying things?

Where is Hunky Dory?

Do you have to remember stuff you forgot, too?

Will the earth continue to tolerate us mucking around with it much longer?

Is there intelligent life?

It's been an interesting morning so far, it has ...

300 posts in the ground.

This Blog now has 300 posts on it.

and maybe a gem or two.

Keep reading you never know what may crop up!?!

Confused Says ...

When Life gives you lemons, make cherry pie!

Quiet on the farm.

Everyone has gone home from the weekend bash except for the immediate family ... and the Mrs., who is going to remain in the 'horse-pitial" for a couple-three days according to her doctors to whack her infection over the head and get its attention.

Mac Duff is sulking and looking for her and keeps coming up to everybody wanting to be held. We've tried to explain to him that 'mommy' is ok, just a little sick and will be back soon but he is one stubborn jack russell.

Despite the unplanned side trip the party was a success and everyone had a great time. Now all I need is a good night's sleep but I won't get it for a couple-three days if you get my meaning.

Susan of Mark and Susan said she loved the weekend even with getting a sunburn on her butt where it usually was covered by her thong bikini (so it wasn't much of a spot anyway) and already put their name on the list for next year's to-do.

A couple of sunburns, a few red rashes from the belly-flops in the pool, a large number of 'headaches' in the morning, yep, the party was asuccess.

Congratulations

Just want to give 'props' to the Appalachian State Mountaineers who handed the Michigan State Wolverines their hats and sent a message to the "Big Boys" the other day by beating them in their own house 34 to 32.

This is hard for a Catamount to do so they best enjoy it while they can.

For those that don't know there is an intense rivalry between the Western Carolina University Catamounts and the Mountaineers of Appalachian State and it was not all that long ago this old linebacker terrorized the Mountaineer backfield and we were handing everyone their hats - including the Mountainers ... and our fans were calling for us to beat Nebraska - but we never got to play them that year.

So way to go Mountaineers.

A Night At The Hospital

Turns out our Labor Day Party was cut short. The Mrs., spiked a fever of 104 and it would not come down. Since earlier this year when she survived multiple Pulmonary Embolisms (blood clots in the lungs) we took no chances and headed to the hospital ER.

Within 10 minutes they had decided to admit her ... but it still took 7 hours to get her from the ER to her room - it was 2:30am by the time we got her in the bed in her room. It took them 8 hours when she had the blood clots - so they improved by an entire hour!

Turns out she had developed an infection and it had caused the spike in body temp, but to be on the safe side the doctors are keeping her for a couple of days. She also is having a good time with the 'pain' as they are feeding her morphine along with potassium (she let it get low again), and antibiotics via IV and she isn't feeling anything.

Now if she can get some sleep between them poking and prodding her every five minutes (or so it seems) she can get some rest.

The big if is can I get some rest and sleep after feeding the animals and letting everyone at the party know she is alright but staying in the hospital, before getting back to her ... she told me to go and stay away until at least noon to rest - like that is going to happen ... she's in the hospital, when was the last time you rested when your spouse was in the hospital.

She wanted me to make sure to bring the laptop back so she could check on her favorite blogs and I could keep up with my Blogs as well.

I think the thing that pisses her off most about this is she has to wear at least a hospital gown and you know she prefers to be nude, of course when the morphine wears off and that Itis boy Arthur comes a'calling she might change her tune about what she is most pissed off about.

Learn Scots Gaelic

Want to expand your mind and learn to speak another language?

Why not learn Scots Gael.

We can start out easy with the words we all want to know like ...

Celidh (Kay - lee) - n,v - A gathering of friends and family for fun and games, music and dancing and other such carrying on, i.e., a party

Nudism

Nudism is a lifestyle philosophy. It has been around as a nebulous thing since air. Throughout the entire history and 'pre-history' of man being nude was the normal state we lived in. Even today being nude is more common than being clothed in parts of the world.

Nudism as a collective thought pattern as it is today came about in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and fully congealed in Germany during the Wiemar Republic era after World War One and spread worldwide from there.

Now the 'philosophical' outlook of the 'industrialized' nations matched the 'common sense' outlook of the 'non-industrialized' nations again where the clothing obsession had never taken root to begin with - clothing was worn for protection from the elements when it was worn at all.

Social status slowly became attuned to the 'doodads' one had adhered the one's protective clothing in some societies (which unfortunately where the most violent and aggressive and therefore 'conquered' the world - bringing their obsessions with them) and the obsession with outdoing one another led to the 'adoption' of remaining clothed despite the lack of need to do so.

Now the circle has come full and the need for clothing is back to what it is for - protection from the elements. Don't get me wrong nudists like clothes too, some are clothes horses - just look into the Mrs., closet and you will see how much of a clothes horse a nudist can be ... she just never wears any of them.

Interesting Question

On another forum there has been posed the following question:

Should Nudism be a religion in it's own right?

Interesting!
I will keep tabs on that discussion and see what the consensus is on that. I'd be curious as to the answers. What say you?

The Sun Is Back

The sun is back today and the pool is already full of the kids splashing while the adults are still bleary eyed and more than a few are walking 'wounded' this morning if they are walking at all - that single malt whiskey tasting last night might have something to do with that ... some 'tasted' them all and then some. Being good Scots we could not have a Celidh (party) without a single malt tasting to go along with the music, dancing, storytelling (and there have been a few whoppers - but that isn't the type of storytelling I am referring to), and other such fun and games we can get ourselves into.

After feeding the animals with the help of my grandson, he and I broke out the horseshoes and a round-robin horseshoe tournament is shaping up. Hopefully some of the 'wounded' will recover from their 'wounds' in time to enjoy the clang of the horseshoes on the metal stakes!

This year's Labor Day weekend bash is a success, the police have only been by once and that was to check to see if they needed to bring ice with them when they got off duty and came to the party themselves (it's nice to be friends with the local police chief as well as the sheriff - who has been here since Friday, anyway - his wife makes the best BBQ beans).

You know I might just have to break out the Pipes and let the 'wounded' really feel their pain - Bag Pipes before lunch, yeah, that's the ticket!

There go Seamus and Angus tearing off toward the river ... must be that family of rabbits moving around down there and the dogs are going to play with them, of course I don't think the rabbits view it that way, but the dogs do ...
