What I can't believe ...

What I can't believe is that this television show was actually popular when it was in production. Much less even more popular today.

Chores

Working on the pond is always better nude and the fish like a clean pond to swim in.

Just one of many chores around the house ... all of which are better performed nude.

One of those days.

Ever had one of those days?!

Busted at the Mail Box

Just got back to the house from checking the mail (I forgot to yesterday, O.K.) and while I was there I was almost hit by a car.
While this is nothing unusual - the traffic (on the only straight part of the road in the entire county ... which runs right across my front lawn) is horrendous and everyone thinks the half mile stretch is a drag strip.
What made this one notable was the fact it was a car full of Hispanics fleeing the police and for some reason they decided to swerve off the road right beside my mailbox and jump out of the car and begin to start to "clean it out" before the police arrived with the help of a pick-up truck load of Hispanics stopping to help them - which also just missed hitting me. Then came the police.
They were not too successful at "cleaning out the car" before the police's arrival - besides I had seen what they were trying to hide so it was futile on their party anyway.
Why they thought the police would not search the truck is beyond me, but all the 'bales' they threw into the open bed of the truck were in plain sight.
As I began to walk the mile back up to the house I left 10 Hispanics in handcuffs squatting on the side of the road and at least 50lbs of Marijuana (I counted twenty or so Kilo 'bales' as they were tossing them into the truck bed) in the capable hands of the local police.
They will be by later to get my statement as to what I saw. You know I might just get that truck at the impound yard as it was seized along with the car for being used in drug trafficking.

Being a nudist.

What constitutes being a nudist?

That question is really a baffling one even to those who call themselves nudists.

The simple and most honest answer is anyone who prefers to be nude is a nudist.

Whether they are in tune with nature, live according to the 'social nudism' philosophy, or just live sans clothing for the fun of it, all are nudists.

So be nude and be free. It will not harm you.

Something you don't see everyday.

Now here is something you don't see everyday - a pink dolphin or as it is actually called a porpoise.

Not Funny - The NFL Scandals

It's not funny - the cheating of Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. It is a disgrace. It is a disgrace along the same lines as the vileness that was Michael Vick's perverse endeavors into dog fighting.

A $500,000.00 personal fine for Coach Belichick and a $250,000.00 fine for the team along with the loss of one draft pick next draft hardly constitutes a penalty for the loss of faith in a child's eye or the hearts of football fans.

At the very least Vick is going to spend time in a 6 by 8 room with bars on the door and window (if it even has a window), for his behavior. Belichick and the Patriots are going about business as usual, even the Atlanta Falcons (Vick's former team) are feeling the after effects of Vick's actions so must the Patriots feel the consequences of their actions for theirs were as a 'team' whereas the Falcons were just caught in the web of Vick's downfall.

This NFL season is going to be a depressing one no matter how good any of the games are because of these 'scandals' ... and you know I am beginning to hate them for that!

Which Historical Lunatic Are You?

Sometimes those internet 'tests' are fun to take and when I ran across one that asked "Which historical lunatic are You!", I had to take it.
The test concluded I was Joshua Abraham Norton, the First and Only Emperor of the United States.
Which isn't all that bad, he was a successful man who lost it all but when he died 30,000 people formed a two mile long funeral procession to say goodbye to a friend to kings and paupers alike.
I like the successful part and the friend to kings and paupers thing; the losing it all part isn't on my 'favorites' list, but if 30,000 people showed up to my funeral losing it all might just well be worth it.

You may be a nice lunatic like me!

Chilies For Me

I have always preferred hot chilies - the hotter the better.

I always knew they were good for your heart and blood but now they are proven to help lessen the chance of developing prostate cancer and reducing prostate cancer cells should one already suffer from the disease.

Capsaicin the chemical in peppers or chilies that make them 'hot' does the number on the cancer cells already there and prevents new ones from forming - it is also the chemical used in muscle creams and rubs found over the counter in any store in America.

The moral of this is:

Men who prefer their chilies are less likely to be sick generally or develop heart and prostate problems than their less 'manly' brethren are.

And I Quote

Even My "Opponents" Are Singing Praises

Sounding the trumpet again!

Some of the people on other forums who usually are at loggerheads with me - mainly over politics - are 'singing' my praises for this and her sister Blog ... even to the point of being complimentary and polite (in private messages of course, they don't want to put a crack in their personal 'public' personas, no they do not).

So I might be winning them over to the Light after all and they are joining my 'friends' from across the geo-political-religious spectrum ... all it takes in a working brain and the ability and willingness to use it - something some are unfortunately unwilling and/or incapable of doing.

Pic-Line May Be Out

We were informed today that the Pic-Line in the Mrs., arm may come out next Monday - she is responding to the antibiotics really well.
That will be a good thing - not to sound selfish, but, I haven't slept any length of time since the Sunday before Labor Day worrying about her and I am bone ass tired.
The first few days in the hospital I didn't sleep at all - of course neither did she until the morphine they gave her kicked in and for the last few days at home she has been sleeping like a baby.

"J" takes after papa.

My grandson "J" called me tonight to let me know his football team played a piss poor game but still won 15-14. He is a chip off the old block, he isn't satisfied with a less than perfect game.

He switched from middle linebacker to wide receiver this season which makes him a deadly threat to opposing defenses - he plays like a middle linebacker as a wide receiver ... with total abandon ... what's more he catches anything within ten feet of him and he is faster than greased lightning in a can.

I was somewhat let down when said he wanted to switch because he had originally wanted to play the same position his papa played, that's why he played the middle linebacker position, but when I saw him still playing 'linebacker-like', I knew he was just like his papa - I should have known he'd switch to one he liked because he is a striker for the soccer team while I was a goalie and he has always said he wanted to be like me when he grew up .... and I'll be damned if he isn't.

Of course he was a tad undersized for linebacker he is only 13 and 5'4' @ 90lbs (at his age I was 6' and 190lbs) but he plays like he was a 6'3" 295lbs bruiser and with his speed, quickness when he is a 6'3" bruiser look out.

Now if his quarterback can learn to throw better and deeper ...

Face of the New Liberals

Look into the face of a New Liberal.

Jack Cafferty as forever been a conservative type but listen to him this days and he is sounding more and more like a Liberal sort.

How is such a transformation possible you ask?!

The shrub and the cabal. The answer is that simple, the shrub and cabal.

Umberto Promises Rain

Tropical Storm Umberto promises to bring rain to an already rain-soaked state - Texas, while we in the Carolinas haven't seen enough rain to even remember what it looks and feels like since April.

My floating dock is now a hanging dock the lake is so low because of the drought.

Tropical Storm Gabriella didn't so much as raise a cloud in the skies here when she came ashore the other day.
While it was good to dodge a harsh storm during hurricane season, damn it we need the rain.

Damn those greedy Texans!

Mystery Solved?

The mystery of how and why the Mrs., had such a massive infection in such a short period of time has been solved ... we think.
Thirty years ago she worked in the trauma unit of a hospital and contracted a pervasive Mercer Staph infection then and was treated and "cured" or so we thought.

But over the last thirty years she has had one infection after the other and this coupled with the recent massive infection leads the doctors and myself to conclude that not all of the Mercer Staph infection of thirty years ago was eradicated from her body and has lain hidden causing the havoc until her blood thinners worked too well and thinned her blood to the point they poured forth and wham.

Now they think the fact that her blood was too thick for all these years is what has kept the Mercer Staph in check, her dying and returning from Pulmonary embolisms due to the thick blood is not the way I would have wanted to find out about the staph but it was just that back in the early spring that got her on the blood thinners in the first place.

She had trouble even with the thinners to get her blood to normal but as soon as she got it to 3.6 which is .6 too thin the massive infection took over in less than 12 hours from the time she found out the results of her weekly finger prick on Friday morning August 31st of this year.

Civility

Why is it that civility is a lost cause among some it seems?

Among the many forums I participate in it is the most uncivil that are ever lashing out at others and in turn whining that they are being "abused" when they are called to the carpet for their incivility or are given back what they try to dish out often better - always better than they deserve.
Also, I have noticed that there are two characteristics these uncivil ones share in common ... 1) they are younger posters, 2) they are on the right end of the political spectrum.

It is a given that each generation feels a lack of civility in the next generation, but these posters go way beyond the pale, surpassing the 'standard' of incivility each generation perceives in the next.
It is no surprise as to the political bent either given the political campaigns of the right the past twenty years.

On one forum I participate I posed this very question, albeit, worded somewhat differently - it will be interesting to see who responds and what those responses will be.

The Family Jewels

While I have never been the biggest KISS fan I have developed a taste for Gene Simmons' off beat humor in his two 'reality' shows.

The first where he took students at a classical music school in England and formed a rock band out of his class and the surprises he had for them were hilarious.

But his show featuring his family is even more hilarious and paints a portrait of a man that is not what his "Rock God" persona is supposed to be and shows him and the family in what amounts to a stand-up improv comedy troupe ... something a lot of families are - albeit this particular family is a tad bit different.

If you have never seen the show you need to. Check the A&E Channel guide for the Sunday night showing, I think it is @ 9PM - I usually catch the repeat at 11PM or so ... I don't watch TV much but happened to catch a show a while back and along with Holmes On Homes on the Discovery/Home Channel it is the only show I try to actually watch each time it is on ... my other TV viewing consists of the different science, history, home and gardening channels when I stop long enough to even turn on the TV.

For all the KISS fans out there reading this remember I did not say I didn't like their music, just I never was much of a fan so don't pull out the poisoned pens and start sending venom filled missives to the comment inbox.

Gene, Shannon, Nick and Sophie and their adventures ... let's hope they can keep it up for a few more seasons at least!

Cast Picnic

We had our annual cast picnic today for the returning cast and new cast to meet and greet for the upcoming RenFaire. It was good to see a lot of familiar faces again and it gave the Mrs., a chance to be out and about after her stay in the hospital.

While at this shindig I thought of what one of those internet trolls keeps trying to convince themselves and others of ... that I (along with select others -those who disagree with them), am an old and lonely and bored man and laughed hysterically at the thought ... which in that crowd nobody even raised an eyebrow when I laughed at "nothing" - ok, so a couple of the new cast members had confused looks on their faces until I explained what it was I was laughing about and even they where puzzled as to why the troll would think that ... I am one of the 'lives of the party' and they could tell right away.

With the production of the RenFaire and the Highland Games as well as several 'theater' productions each year, seeing my patients, helping at the butcher shop, working on the farm, writing my books and this and her sister Blog, participating in several internet forums and more, 'bored' isn't a word myself or others who know me would use to describe me, tired, maybe, but not bored!

So much for the cognitive skills of internet trolls!

Panthers Win

The Carolina Panthers opened the 2007 - 08 season with a win, drubbing the St. Louis Rams 27 to 13.

In a tipping pool I am involved in I am at 80% on my predictions for week one so far ... would be higher but the Packers just pissed a victory out of the horrid game they played that was a gift from the Eagles and the Titans winning - something I saw as possible but went with the Jaguars anyway and of course the 'ain'ts showed up for the second half Thursday night in place of the Saints and where hosed by the Colts would should not win any more this season.

It looks to stay at 80% too; not bad for opening week.

Some profound thoughts!

Found this as I was perusing the Scrutiny Hooligans Blog and thought damn that's some good words there, so I brought them here.

*****

"The only dream worth having is to dream that you will live while you are alive, and die when you are dead.
To love, to be loved.
To never forget your own insignificance.
To never get used to the unspeakable violence and vulgar disparity around you.
To seek joy in the saddest places.
To pursue beauty to it's lair.
To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple.
To respect strength, never power.
Above all, to watch.
To try and understand.
To never look away.
And, never, never forget."

Dinner with Bill

Had dinner with Bill yesterday, hadn't seen him in a bit.

Busy campaigning for his wife these days.

Was like old times and it gave the local neo-cons the shivering fits the fact that he was in town.

Home Sweet Home

The Mrs., finally made it home from the hospital today, but still has to have a nurse come by for the next ten days to give her antibiotics by IV - she was a sicker puppy than she knew. Lucky for us it was not the blood clots in her lungs this time, just a massive urinary tact infection and a general body infection.

Bladder and urinary tact infections are more common than people are willing to admit among women ... but the Mrs., will not be stubborn about any future ones - and go to the doctor earlier and tell me about it sooner ... I will be more stubborn about her doing just that!

Wrong on so many levels.

This is just wrong ... on so many levels!

Microwavers Beware!

Microwavers beware! That hot buttery popcorn you are popping could be giving you lung cancer!

A rare form of lung cancer has been linked to the artificial butter and the microwaving process and prolonged exposure leads to contracting the disease.

While this is news and worthy of notice I would like us to admit to ourselves once and for all that "everything" causes cancer ... it is just a matter of 'how much' of whatever it is to make it cause cancer that should be the concern; for example, pure clean water can cause cancer as cancer is naught save an abnormal growth of a cell, however the amount of pure clean water it would take to cause cancer would never be reached by any human - for they would literally explode from the amount of pure clean water taken in and retained by the body long before the level of 'cancer causing' amounts was near.
The 'scare' tactic of such announcements for sale a product, boycott a product, etc., is what is going on with these 'announcements' ... and it works too!.

Caveman

The 'caveman' has come a long way from D. W. Griffith's version in the 1916 film Man's Genesis to Ringo Starr uttering the famous line "Atouk zug zug Tala?" in the 1981 comedy Caveman.

Now thanks to an ad campaign by a low cost auto insurance company the 'caveman' is getting his on TV sitcom . (Not really sure if that's a ascent or a descent, though). ABC will broadcast the show this fall - the trick question is whether a quirky ad campaign can translate into a sitcom will be answered quickly this fall.

Beefeaters

Quietly two months ago history was made in London as Moira Cameron of Argyll, Scotland, who at age 42 and a warrant officer 2 in the British military became the first female Yeoman Warder aka Beefeater to be among the 35-man (along with a Chief Yeoman Warder and a Chief Yeoman Gaoler - 'jailer'), unit guarding the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London.

Established in 1485 to guard the treasures of the Crown and the family of the Crown and quickly thereafter assigned to guard prisoners of the Crown in the Tower this elite corps has been an all male affair and even still was after Moira Cameron's appointment for the last couple of months because her turn on the active duty roster did not come until September 1st of this year.

Today's Beefeaters main function (outside of guarding the Crown Jewels), is to guide tourists and to patiently pose smiling for pictures. Unlike the guards at Buckingham Palace they are allowed to move and speak, and are quite jovial about their jobs. However I for one would not care to be on the receiving end of their non-jovial side should one attempt any maliciousness at the Tower much less attempt any thievery.

And you can look to we Scots to pave the way into the future, remember t'was a Scottish lass what came to be the first woman Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London.

When Life gives you lemons, make cherry pie!

Quiet on the farm.

Everyone has gone home from the weekend bash except for the immediate family ... and the Mrs., who is going to remain in the 'horse-pitial" for a couple-three days according to her doctors to whack her infection over the head and get its attention.

Mac Duff is sulking and looking for her and keeps coming up to everybody wanting to be held. We've tried to explain to him that 'mommy' is ok, just a little sick and will be back soon but he is one stubborn jack russell.

Despite the unplanned side trip the party was a success and everyone had a great time. Now all I need is a good night's sleep but I won't get it for a couple-three days if you get my meaning.

Susan of Mark and Susan said she loved the weekend even with getting a sunburn on her butt where it usually was covered by her thong bikini (so it wasn't much of a spot anyway) and already put their name on the list for next year's to-do.

A couple of sunburns, a few red rashes from the belly-flops in the pool, a large number of 'headaches' in the morning, yep, the party was asuccess.

Congratulations

Just want to give 'props' to the Appalachian State Mountaineers who handed the Michigan State Wolverines their hats and sent a message to the "Big Boys" the other day by beating them in their own house 34 to 32.

This is hard for a Catamount to do so they best enjoy it while they can.

For those that don't know there is an intense rivalry between the Western Carolina University Catamounts and the Mountaineers of Appalachian State and it was not all that long ago this old linebacker terrorized the Mountaineer backfield and we were handing everyone their hats - including the Mountainers ... and our fans were calling for us to beat Nebraska - but we never got to play them that year.

So way to go Mountaineers.

A Night At The Hospital

Turns out our Labor Day Party was cut short. The Mrs., spiked a fever of 104 and it would not come down. Since earlier this year when she survived multiple Pulmonary Embolisms (blood clots in the lungs) we took no chances and headed to the hospital ER.

Within 10 minutes they had decided to admit her ... but it still took 7 hours to get her from the ER to her room - it was 2:30am by the time we got her in the bed in her room. It took them 8 hours when she had the blood clots - so they improved by an entire hour!

Turns out she had developed an infection and it had caused the spike in body temp, but to be on the safe side the doctors are keeping her for a couple of days. She also is having a good time with the 'pain' as they are feeding her morphine along with potassium (she let it get low again), and antibiotics via IV and she isn't feeling anything.

Now if she can get some sleep between them poking and prodding her every five minutes (or so it seems) she can get some rest.

The big if is can I get some rest and sleep after feeding the animals and letting everyone at the party know she is alright but staying in the hospital, before getting back to her ... she told me to go and stay away until at least noon to rest - like that is going to happen ... she's in the hospital, when was the last time you rested when your spouse was in the hospital.

She wanted me to make sure to bring the laptop back so she could check on her favorite blogs and I could keep up with my Blogs as well.

I think the thing that pisses her off most about this is she has to wear at least a hospital gown and you know she prefers to be nude, of course when the morphine wears off and that Itis boy Arthur comes a'calling she might change her tune about what she is most pissed off about.

Learn Scots Gaelic

Want to expand your mind and learn to speak another language?

Why not learn Scots Gael.

We can start out easy with the words we all want to know like ...

Celidh (Kay - lee) - n,v - A gathering of friends and family for fun and games, music and dancing and other such carrying on, i.e., a party

Nudism

Nudism is a lifestyle philosophy. It has been around as a nebulous thing since air. Throughout the entire history and 'pre-history' of man being nude was the normal state we lived in. Even today being nude is more common than being clothed in parts of the world.

Nudism as a collective thought pattern as it is today came about in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and fully congealed in Germany during the Wiemar Republic era after World War One and spread worldwide from there.

Now the 'philosophical' outlook of the 'industrialized' nations matched the 'common sense' outlook of the 'non-industrialized' nations again where the clothing obsession had never taken root to begin with - clothing was worn for protection from the elements when it was worn at all.

Social status slowly became attuned to the 'doodads' one had adhered the one's protective clothing in some societies (which unfortunately where the most violent and aggressive and therefore 'conquered' the world - bringing their obsessions with them) and the obsession with outdoing one another led to the 'adoption' of remaining clothed despite the lack of need to do so.

Now the circle has come full and the need for clothing is back to what it is for - protection from the elements. Don't get me wrong nudists like clothes too, some are clothes horses - just look into the Mrs., closet and you will see how much of a clothes horse a nudist can be ... she just never wears any of them.

Interesting Question

On another forum there has been posed the following question:

Should Nudism be a religion in it's own right?

Interesting!
I will keep tabs on that discussion and see what the consensus is on that. I'd be curious as to the answers. What say you?

The Sun Is Back

The sun is back today and the pool is already full of the kids splashing while the adults are still bleary eyed and more than a few are walking 'wounded' this morning if they are walking at all - that single malt whiskey tasting last night might have something to do with that ... some 'tasted' them all and then some. Being good Scots we could not have a Celidh (party) without a single malt tasting to go along with the music, dancing, storytelling (and there have been a few whoppers - but that isn't the type of storytelling I am referring to), and other such fun and games we can get ourselves into.

After feeding the animals with the help of my grandson, he and I broke out the horseshoes and a round-robin horseshoe tournament is shaping up. Hopefully some of the 'wounded' will recover from their 'wounds' in time to enjoy the clang of the horseshoes on the metal stakes!

This year's Labor Day weekend bash is a success, the police have only been by once and that was to check to see if they needed to bring ice with them when they got off duty and came to the party themselves (it's nice to be friends with the local police chief as well as the sheriff - who has been here since Friday, anyway - his wife makes the best BBQ beans).

You know I might just have to break out the Pipes and let the 'wounded' really feel their pain - Bag Pipes before lunch, yeah, that's the ticket!

There go Seamus and Angus tearing off toward the river ... must be that family of rabbits moving around down there and the dogs are going to play with them, of course I don't think the rabbits view it that way, but the dogs do ...

Ol'Fred

Caught a glimpse of Ol'Fred earlier today in the back of the barn ... something of a rarity these days.

That old Black Snake has been keeping the barn vermin free for over a year now and keeping the Mrs., on her toes. She goes catatonic at the mere mention of the word snake much less the actual sight of one - something which is a handicap around a farm and earlier in the years she was freaking out regularly because we had several Copperheads to get into the house - I got them all and I wish I could put Ol'Fred under the house so he could take care of that problem, but Mama won't hear of it (they're no Copperheads anywhere near the barn, by the way).

Luckily the river and lake are just far enough away Cotton Mouths (aka Water Moccasins) don't bother to come up the the main buildings - the boat house is another story.

It's Funny

You knew it had to happen sooner or later didn't you?

Admit it, now ... it's funny!

Four A Day

Four a day. The goal for this Blog is four posts a day for the 30 days of September ... let's see if we can make it.

Cool and Overcast

September started off cooler and overcast than August ended. It is amazing how Ma Nature knows our calendar so well! Temps in the low 80s for highs and a gentle wind most of the day made for one hell of a party today -which is going on well into the night and again tomorrow.

Get naked and join us ... the hot tub is going to get crowded with lows in the lower 70s tonight ...

August ends with the Cat's sacrifice.

He gave his life that this Blog shall live!
(No, not really we don't have a cat, don't be so gullible, sheeesh!)

The 11 o'Clock News

When the shrub attended a fund raiser for Pete Domenici in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, New Mexico, at least one sane person made it through the staged throng of 'shrubettes' to tell the truth. The dictator referenced was a great speaker, insane but a great speaker unlike the dictator-wannabe we are suffering under, he is just insane.
